The 4-year H2020 HISER project started in February 2015 with the kick-off meeting in Bilbao.
HISER “Holistic Innovative Solutions for an Efficient Recycling and Recovery of Valuable Raw Materials from Complex Construction and Demolition Waste” is an ambitious project around closed material loops for Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW), based on circular economy principles. The project was designed addressing the specific challenges and scope described by the European Commission in the call Recycling of raw materials from products and buildings (Waste 3-2014), around the main pillar of societal challenges. Moreover, the specific challenge of new solutions for the extraction of raw material from more complex products and buildings derives from the Action Area on Recycling of raw materials from products and buildings of the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on Raw Materials.
Strong scientific, technical, technological and manufacturing skills are combined in the well-balanced HISER team of 25 partners. The consortium consists of eight large companies, eight SMEs, a confederation, six research organizations and two public bodies. Partners belong to eight countries from the European Union (i.e. Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and The Netherlands). Also, HISER includes a Swiss based SME having innovative industrial selective fragmentation solutions. There is a relevant share of industrial partners, 17 out of 25 partners, that cover the whole value chain in the (1-2-3-4-1) circular economy of C&DW materials (i.e. 1 demolition/refurbishment; 2 separation/sorting of high-purity materials from C&DW; 3 incorporation in new products; 4 new building activity including extensive use of recycled materials; 1 demolition/refurbishment; etc.).
From 4 to 6th February 2015 HISER project had its kick-off meeting in Bilbao (Spain) at project coordinator TECNALIA facilities. The project team met face-to-face and discussed on the project ambition and objectives and its coordinated implementation, with tasks and assignments for the following months. Next General Assembly meeting of the project will be in September 2015.
