Technology developers, representatives of the industry and from university and research institutes were gathered in Vienna on the 16th and 17th of November 2016 for presenting and discussing around the latest solutions to the challenge of construction and demolition waste recycling.
Mining the European Anthroposphere “MINEA” action is striving for a breakthrough in the integrated assessment of primary and secondary resource potential, which is a prerequisite for effective resource management. In contrast with primary materials, for which there are inventories of geogenic deposits (resources) and economically extractable shares (reserves), there is a lack of information on the availability of secondary materials, even though the quantity of materials in the anthroposphere has risen dramatically in the last few decades.
The Workshop about “Recovery technologies for construction and demolition waste” provided a comprehensive overview of innovative recovery and recycling technologies for CDW flows in buildings and infrastructure across European regions. Ms. Amaia Lisbona from TECNALIA Research & Innovation presented some of the HISER solutions which are currently under development, such as the BIM-SD software tool for supporting the predemolition assessment, the gypsum plasterboard recycling equipment, the development of extruded composites including recycled materials from C&DW or the innovative ADR Advanced Dry Recovery recycling equipment for the stony fraction and the (LIBS-based) inline quality assessment technology. Other interesting technological solutions presented in the event dealt with robotics for waste sorting (ZenRobotics), mobile equipment for on-site wet-screening of C&DW (Bernegger) or a map-based waste management software application for exchange of (waste/recycled) materials from C&DW (Clean-Way). The workshop also provided a unique opportunity to discuss and evaluate the current CDW recovery challenges and opportunities.
